The Stuart Foundation has been a consistent supporter of the Center’s work from the organization’s inception, providing both general and special purpose grants.  Activities currently sponsored include:

  • The annual report on California’s teacher workforce,
  • Regional and statewide efforts to establish an effective and reliable teacher data system,
  • Developmental work to strengthen educational leadership, and
  • Project to promote greater collaboration between the public education and child welfare sectors to improve educational outcomes for foster children and youth.

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation makes grants to address the most serious social and environmental problems facing society, where risk capital, responsibly invested, may make a difference over time.  The mission of The James Irvine Foundation is to expand opportunity for the people of California to participate in a vibrant, successful and inclusive society. The James Irvine Foundation

The James Irvine Foundation is providing support to the Center to analyze the status of secondary education in California and identify innovative high school reform strategies that emphasize the integration of core academics with career and technical education.  Research on this topic will be conducted during 2008-09, leading to the presentation of our findings in the 2009 annual report.  The ultimate goal of this effort will be to identify ways in which California's teacher development system can be strengthened so that students are prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

The S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation and the Stephen Bechtel Fund, family foundations, support well-managed non-profit organizations that provide quality programs and create significant sustained benefits in areas of special interest to the Founder and Directors.S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation

The S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation supports two initiatives of the Center. The Foundation is instrumental in the Center’s efforts to make our annual teacher workforce data widely available and free of charge on our website to stakeholders interested in strengthening teaching and learning in California. The Foundation also provided support for development of an initiative to strengthen science teaching and learning in California through research and strategic communications. This initiative will be expanded in 2010-11 to provide the data and recommendations upon which informed, strategic and effective decisions to strengthen science teaching can be built.
